Creativity as a practice

Creativity is a practice. When you approach your creative endeavor with the same intention you would for a spiritual practice — be it law, be it poetry, be it sweeping — it becomes a flowing.

I’ve found this: If I make myself available daily to the creative juice, it flows. It flows.

It’s the daily sitting down to it that activates the flow. It’s the writing down ideas whenever they occur — every time! — that activates the flow. It’s the acting on inspiration that activates the flow. It’s being attentive that activates the flow.

It’s true in every endeavor you value, for in every action there is potential for creative surprise.
